Through the course of my career I have seen many homes, 90% of which are not being maintained properly. The problems resulting from this can be minor (lacking caulking, paint or stain), to major (water ingress and rot). It does not matter the age of the home, I’ve seen newer homes with serious problems and older ones that are rock solid. I do not believe the owners intend to let their investment deteriorate around them but rather don’t understand the importance of regular maintenance.
